Welcome to Shark Club’s “Playoff Pairings” feature – a friendly suggestion of which food menu items pair best with a particular NHL playoff series. Drinks are omitted, since you know ordering any Molson Canadian product during the playoffs grants you the opportunity to scratch & win your way to victory. (Not sure what we’re talking about? Read about it over yonder).
For the Sharks | DIRTY CHIPS
We could have gone the easy route and prescribed Shark Bites, but we wanted to challenge ourself. What isn’t a challenge, however, is dusting off a serving of Dirty Chips. These warm potato chips, buffalo style with bacon, blue cheese and creamy ranch dressing are an ode to Brent Burn’s famed beard: it’s kind of dirty but you can’t look away (or, in the case of your appy selection, can’t stop eating them).
For the Predators | DOUBLE CHEESE NACHOS
Whether you picture the intense sabre-toothed tiger on the Predators crest, or Schwarzenegger’s body-heat sensing combatant, you would probably agree that a Predator has one hell of an appetite. We think ordering an appetizer best meant for sharing with the intention of finishing it yourself is the best course of action. Served with a full pound of melted cheese atop tortilla chips, diced tomatoes, green onions and jalapeños, we recommend going with the spicy beef topping to make this a meal fit for a fierce Predator (including Shea Weber).
For the Sharks | SHARK BURGER (duh)
Look, we had to. What exactly makes our Shark Burger so much more special than a regular burger? Well, our hand pressed beef burger comes fully loaded with bacon, sautéed mushrooms, cheddar, caramelized onions, burger relish, lettuce, tomato, red onion and pickles. We weren’t kidding about the “fully loaded” part. With five players 6’4″ or taller, this hearty handful is fit for a (San Jose) Shark.
For the Predators | JAMBALAYA
Jambalaya did originate 533km south of Nashville in New Orleans, but that doesn’t mean the state of Tennessee can’t enjoy a spicy bowl of meat & rice. With the prevalence of dishes like the meat & three or biscuits and gravy, Nashville is a city that enjoys southern comfort food. Our jambalaya includes the classic trifecta of meats: chicken, prawns and chorizo sausage sautéed with onions in a Creole rice.
While the phrase “as American as apple pie” has been proven to be inaccurate, we still think our apple pie spring rolls are the perfect fit for this all American playoff match. Rolled into convenient bundles, this dessert dish is served with vanilla bean ice cream, which is a requirement during intensely hot summers in Tennessee & California.
